(USS Indy Radio Room Exhibit)

Hamilton Co. Scouts from troops #205,210 & 199 visited the WW2IND station.!
All were participants in Badge Counselor John Brooks-N9KYC, Radio Merit badge class.
This visit allowed them to make live on the AIR ham radio contacts. Class was accompanied by 4 of the parents.
Some of the Parents got on the radio waves too!.

Special visit by Mackinzie Nelson (12yrs) and Great, Great, Grand-daughter of USS Indianapolis Survivor
Frank Nelson. Mackinzie & parents were visiting from Florida to review & study some of the IWM
USS Indy artifacts. Mackinzie saw the Scouts opertaing ham radio and ask to participate.
John Brooks completed a brief radio course for her including BSA cordentials & even an IWM
USS Indy Radio certificate. all in hopes that she will get credit for Ham radio operations
upon returing to Florida.

USS Indy Radio Central exhibit....

Completeing the Radio badge course visiting scouts made approx. 30 QSO's with
(off site Hams)Rudy-KN9C, Barry-KW9DX & Dave-K9RTTon 2,10 & 6 Meter hams freq.'s.
Each Scout received a WW2IND participation Certificate with their contact information .!

Assisting the BSA class in the IWM, USS INDY Radio exhibit,
N9KZJ-Dave, KC9TRV-Ted & W9IH-Chuck .

The troop plans to return for another Ham radio only day in the future.!!


6m ops position was a different challenge

10m OPS Station was on WW2IND vertical antenn

some 2m operators base 2m got a work out on local repeaters.

Several Scouts expressed a serious interest in getting a ham radio license.!

Radiomen Video Interviews run daily (WED-SUN ..9AM-5PM )at
the Indiana War Memorial Museum, USS Indy Radio room exhibit.
